Once criss-crossed by fields of Centifolia roses and perfume flowers, La Colle-sur-Loup was one of the main suppliers to the perfume factories of Grasse. Since 2007, the village has celebrated the rose every year in the middle of May. But the first editions date back to the 1950s, and were aimed at attracting the press and starlets to the Croisette during the Cannes Film Festival!

There was plenty of entertainment: myrtle and heather garland weaving workshops, petal cannons, floors strewn with petals, floats decorated entirely with flowers by the families of La Colle, processions in period costumes. Two prizes were awarded: the Rose Queen – a young local girl who received a prize from the cooperative representing the value of her weight in rose petals; and the Rose Prize – awarded to a star (1st prize awarded in 1956 to Brigitte Bardot, Dany Robin 1957, Marina Vlady 1958…). The event gradually declined from 1961 onwards, and was only relaunched in 2007, due to the decline of flower fields in the village… In 2024, we celebrated the 70th anniversary of this festival!
